Several aerial photos circulating on the internet indicate that Hollywood celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez, "Playboy" magazine mogul Hugh Hefner and Khloe Kardashian are wasting tons of gallons of water amid California's worst drought in history.
Despite Governor Jerry Brown's call for extreme cut in water usage, several Hollywood A-listers are not paying any heed to the directions and are busy maintaining their acres of estate in lush green condition in mid of arid land.
California has passed an emergency law last week under which residents were told to save water as experts have predicted that the state's reservoirs have less than a year's worth of drinking water. While most of the residents are reportedly avoiding car washes and watering their lawns, Kanye West and his wife's estate is still all lush and green, surrounded by brown grassless ground.
"The Kardashian flowers and hedges are right in our face. It's disgusting," a neighbour told the New York Post. "You walk by and you can smell the freshness."
Lopez's has also been accused of wasting water to maintain her lush green estate, which appears out of place amid the brown dry land surrounding the property.
An advocate on energy conservation, Barbara Stresiand, has also come under scanner owing to her full pool and manicured lawn, though the actress has claimed in the past that she has cut down her water usage by 50 percent. The same is the scene at Hefner's property where acres of land has been maintained in tiptop condition, evidently wasting gallons of water daily.
It appears though that not all celebrities are insensitive about the issue of water conservation. "Friends" star Jennifer Aniston, Cher and "Pretty Woman" star Julia Roberts are resoting to wise innovations to waste less water.
While Aniston has pulled out the water-sucking vineyard on her Bel-Air estate and planted drought-resistant succulent plants across the property, Cher has also planted water saving palm trees to make her grounds look green in the dry weather condition, Daily Mail reported.
Roberts, who has energy efficient solar panel on the roof of her house, has let her lawn turn brown by watering it as less as possible. Meanwhile, many other stars like Cameron Diaz and former "X Factor" judge Sharon Osbourne have declared that they are reserving toilet flush as much as possible.
