Dean Israelite's "Power Rangers" film remake is moving forward and it has recently revealed its big villain - Rita Repulsa, the first antagonist in the original "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" television series.
Sources told Heroic Hollywood that Repulsa is a "huntress" and refined "alien-looking woman." She holds a crescent-topped staff, which gives massive power and ability to form humanoid and robotic figures.
According to Cinema Blend, the first episode of "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" reveals Repulsa's release from a space dumpster following a thousand decades of being imprisoned, leading to her desire to conquer the Earth and Zordon's call to five teenagers to become "Power Rangers."
Repulsa will also be initially seen in the cretaceous period, the setting of the film's prologue. She will be fighting the "Power Rangers" in the era, which features The Red Ranger Zordon.
While the film has been able to pick its main antagonist, it still does not have the actors who will play Repulsa and the titular superheroes. At this point, fans have to wait for further announcement about the cast, plot twist, and other details.
"Power Rangers" follows teenagers who can morph into superheroes who wear colored costumes tasked to fight monsters that threaten Earth, along with the giant robots called Zords. The Zords can be summoned to battle colossal aliens and they can also assemble themselves into a single fighting robot.
Aside from Israelite as the film's director,"X-men: First Class" writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz are on board to pen the script of the upcoming "Power Rangers."
The new "Power Rangers" movie is set to premiere in theaters on Jan. 13, 2017.
