Laverne Cox portrayal of Sophia on "Orange Is The New Black" is loved by fans. Cox recently talked about Caitlyn Jenner and how the world has changed for the better.
Cox was present at OrangeCon to promote "Orange Is The New Black" Season 3 in New York City. The star talked to Us Weekly about Jenner.
"What a day. I was getting ready earlier and my hairstylist he said, 'When he was a kid, it was just not like this.' We were watching television and they were talking about Caitlyn and they were talking about LGBT folks who've come out on YouTube. The world is so much more welcoming for folks like us. So that's really beautiful," Cox said.
However, the star also mentioned that they still have to go a long way. Cox stated that according to a report by The National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs, trans women of color are at risk for violence. Cox added that the time is wonderful for the trans community, but still the violence rate has increased by 13 percent. It is still a challenge to protect the lives of folks in the trans gender community.
Cox also stated that they are more than the looks. For Cox, it is important to celebrate the beauty of the person. The star urged that people should not evaluate them on the way they look. Cox appreciated Caitlyn for her courage and inner beauty. "Orange Is The New Black" star said they should be expected by who they are.
