Apple Inc. has decided to remove all civil war games that feature the Confederate flag from its platform on its iTunes App Store.
Apple explained that they have to pull the civil war games due to the images of the confederate flag that might be offensive with other people’s culture. Among the affected games were civil war games including Ultimate General: Gettysburg, Civil War: 1862 and the Hunted Cow Civil War and the game developers have insisted that the flag is used in their games only for historical context and accuracy, SFGate reported.
The game developers of the said titles added that they were not sympathetic in any way with the Confederate flag and do not mean to offend anyone, as they are trying to use it for historical recount. Maxim Zasov of Game Labs, the developers of Ultimate General: Gettysburg believes that these details help in learning and understanding history as it depicts the real events as they were.
It is liely that the Cupertino-based tech giant is jumping in the bandwagon of Walmart and Amazon’s decision to pull out the Confederate flags and other Confederate symbols from their store following the recent attack in the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston.
The Cupertino-based company said that they are already working with the game developers to return the games in the iTunes App Store, following the condition of removing the Confederate battle flag in game programming, according to TechCrunch.
On the other hand, Apple users can still purchase games such as unhistoric shooter Wolfenstein 3D that feature Nazi swastika banner, along with music legend by Lynyrd Skynyrd that features Confederate flag on its album cover and the seven seasons of American TV series Dukes of Hazzard.
