The cast of "The Vampire Diaries" recently said their goodbyes to former cast member Nina Dobrev at the San Diego Comic Con panel.
During a panel interview, series creator Julie Plec revealed that everyone misses Dobrev especially since the actress played the role of Elena Gilbert for the past six years. Lead star Ian Somerhalder, who plays the role of Damon Salvatore, said that Dobrev's recent exit only means the evolution of the story of "The Vampire Diaries."
Meanwhile, according to Variety, co-star Paul Wesley, who plays the role of Stefan Salvatore, also shared the same sentiments with Somerhalder. The actor said that Dobrev's exit paved the way for the series creator to shift the focus of the series. Additionally, the dynamics also change so "The Vampire Diaries" felt like a fresh and new show once again.
In other news, despite Dobrev's recent exit, the entire cast of the CW series clarified to fans that Elena is not dead. This has led them to speculate that Dobrev can return to reprise her role anytime she wants, The Hollywood Reporter noted.
According to Kat Graham, who plays the role of Bonnie, she has always known that Dobrev will be leaving the show. She added that the decision of the creators to not kill off Elena, but to just let her sleep for a long time, can pave the way for her return later on in the series. However, the actress stressed that this will depend solely on Dobrev herself.
"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 will premiere on the CW this coming October.
