After helping Universal Pictures to complete the filming of "Furious 7" after the sudden demise of its star and his brother Paul Walker, Cody Walker landed his first major supporting role in the upcoming movie "USS Indianapolis."
The 27-year-old actor will be working alongside the "National Treasure" actor Nicolas Cage. The movie will be directed by Mario Van Peebles of "Love Kills" fame and will also star the "Saving Private Ryan" actor Tom Sizemore and the "Deep Blue Sea" actor Thomas Jane, Deadline reported.
The movie is centered on the real life incidence when the crew of the ship, Indianapolis, was stranded in the Philippine Sea for five days, after delivering the atomic weapons during WWII. Cage will play the role of the famous Captain Charles McVay, the commander who is known to have struggled to keep his men alive as the ship sank killing 300 men and the rest 880 men were left floating in the sea, filled with sharks.
McVay, who was court martialed for losing a ship and eventually committed suicide, was posthumously exonerated in 2000. The movie is expected to be told old through the perspective of the 11-year-old boy, who will struggle hard in the movie to get McVay exonerated , IGN reported.
Cody will be seen in the role of a Navy soldier, who will struggle for survival as he is left swimming in water without any lifeboat, along with his other shipmates. The movie is expected to hit the theatres over the 2016 Memorial Day weekend.
Also, Cody is reported to have joined the cast of "Furious 8." The late actor's brother is likely to play the role of Jack O'Connor, who will join the gang after Brian O'Connor is shown to have retired in the last release of "Fast And Furious" franchise.
