The video of American singer Beyonce for her single "Ghost" inspired Australian architect Elenberg Fraser for a skyscraper he is building in Melbourne. The video was one of 17 music videos that Beyonce released in December 2013.
The 741-foot building will be called Premier Tower. In the video, the Grammy awardee writhes while clad in body stocking. Thus, the tower visualizes "a twisting, iconic building that draws on a vertical cantilever concept to redistribute the building's weight over a challenging site," quotes The Australian.
Fraser, in his website, says, "We will reveal that the form does pay homage to something more aesthetic - we're going to trust you've seen the music video for Beyonce's Ghost." For those who haven't, here is the video.
Fraser explains that he used a parametric modeling system wherein a structure's dimensions was the factor that dictated geometry rather than the opposite. Melbourne building officials initially approved only 68 floors, but the architect fought for his original design that has 78 storeys, Smithsonianmag reports.
The edifice, rising near the city's Southern Cross railway station, would have apartments, retail space and hotel rooms. Fragrance Group, a real estate firm owned by Koh Wee Meng, a Singaporean billionaire, financed the project.
The construction required the demolition of The Savoy Tavern, a 1970s pub that reopened in 2014 after it was closed for two decades.
Beyonce, who has a concert on September 5 and 6 at the Ben Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia, has not confirmed if she would be a guest during the building's inaugural or perform at the skyscraper's hotel. In 2014, Beyonce and husband Jay Z were rumored to bring their On The Run tour to Australia after a generic waitlist was posted on a ticketing website. The posting of a generic waitlist is used by the ticketing portal as a trial balloon to test if Australians are willing to buy tickets of a particular artist.
