"Significant Mother" cast members Nathaniel Buzolic, Josh Zuckerman and Krista Allen discuss the CW Network's new Monday night comedy series in an interview. The show will center on how Nate Marlowe (Josh Zuckerman) will deal with the fact that Lydia (Krista Allen), his mother, is now dating his best friend Jimmy (Nathaniel Buzolic).
"The Vampire Diaries" and "The Originals" star Nathaniel Buzolic told Us Weekly what will basically happen on "Significant Mother" during an interview in the Los Angeles offices last July. "If you picture the most awkward scenario that three people could have, it would be your best friend dating your mom," Buzolic stated.
Josh Zuckerman explained that his character will be navigating on the awkward scenario and balancing on what he wants for his best friend and mother without having to disown one of them. Zuckerman added that the conflicts on the show will come from the issue of age difference and the fact that Nate and Jimmy grew up together with Lydia raising them.
In the pilot episode, Nate initially declared he can no longer be friends with Jimmy after finding out about that his best friend is sleeping with his mother. Nate eventually changed his mind and gave his blessing to the relationship because he does want his mother to be happy.
Meanwhile, "Days of Our Lives" actress Krista Allen shared in a Zap2it interview that Lydia Marlowe is having a slightly delayed coming-of-age story in "Significant Mother." Allen explained that her character has been living her life taking care of everyone around her.
Allen teased that the storyline will evolve and become so much more than the issue of the mom sleeping with her son's best friend. "Significant Mother" is a comedy series but Krista Allen thinks the show also has a serious subtext.
With Lydia committing several mistakes in her life, Allen explained that her character will stumble and fail as she tries to do her best in reinventing and changing herself. "Significant Mother" airs on Monday nights at 9:30/8:30c on the CW Network with episode 2 titled "Mixed Doubles" scheduled to air on Aug. 10.
