Buffalo Police in the suburb of Hamburg are investigating Patrick Kane, star player of the Chicago Blackhawks, for rape. A woman accused Kane of sexual assault over the weekend.
The Buffalo News reports that woman went to a hospital where she was tested for sexual assault using a rape kit. The 26-year-old player is a native of Buffalo who stays in Hamburg when it is off-season. He allegedly met her at a bar in Evans, reports Chicago Sun-Times.
While Hamburg Police Chief Gregory Wickett declined to confirm to USA Today of an investigation on Kane, Frank Brown, NHL group vice president of media relations, said they are aware of the probe and are following the developments. Kane has not been charged yet.
The Blackhawks, Kane's team, likewise is aware of the accusation and is gathering more information, while Pat Brisson, the embattled player's manager, declined to comment on the accusation. The Chicago Tribune cites unnamed neighbors of Kane in Lake Erie that they saw plainclothes cops enter the athlete's home and take photos.
The officers arrived in three unmarked cars at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday. They shone flashlights throughout Kane's house for about 45 minutes and took photos outside the house which neighbors describe as quiet, although occasional parties are held by Kane.
The star player's almost 6,000-square-foot house is a 20-minute drive away from Buffalo. It has hockey goals in front of the house which is above a pebbly beach and offers views of the downtown Buffalo skyline across Lake Erie.
Kane, who helped lead his team to the Blackhawk's third Stanley Cup championships in the last six years, is scheduled to play in the Stanley Cup in Buffalo this weekend.
