The fighting video game titled "Super Smash Bros." is rumored to add another famous Nintendo character, Professor Layton, after releasing its most recent DLC pack or patch 1.1.0.
The rumor gained traction when an account named "Layton For Smash!" tweeted a question to Christopher Miller, Professor Layton's voice character, if there was any truth to the inclusion of Miller's character into the list of "Smash Bros." lineup. The voice actor responded positively by confirming that he was in that list. This conversation sparked speculations that Nintendo might indeed add Professor Layton to the star-studded lineup of the fighting video game.
However, according to iDigital Times, Nintendo did not have any official announcement yet concerning Professor Layton's addition. The name of the character was even removed from the Wii U IMDB page of the fighting video game after the tweet of "Layton for Smash!"
Professor Layton first appeared in Nintendo's puzzle adventure game titled "Professor Layton and the Curious Village," which was released in 2007. Since its first launch, the "Professor Layton" game series produced six more games and a film.
Recently, Nintendo launched "Super Smash Bros." patch 1.1.0 which added familiar characters to the game such as Mewtwo from "Pokemon"; Ryu from "Street Fighter"; Lucas from "Mother 3"; and Roy from "Fire Emblem: The Binding Blades."
According to The Revoluzionne, Mewtwo is a legendary creature in the "Pokemon" series and has appeared on both the game and anime adaptations of the Japanese franchise. Ryu is the protagonist from "Street Fighter," which is a famous fighting video game that was first launched in 1987. Meanwhile, Lucas, a character with psychic abilities, appeared in a role-playing game in 2006 while Roy is the main character from a 2002 tactical video game.
Aside from the latest inclusions, the patch 1.1.0 also provided new fashion styles to other characters such as K.K., King K. Rool, Chrom and Slider. The patch gave these characters new wearable costumes. In addition, the new DLC pack allowed new features like the Tourney mode, Miiverse stage, N64 stage, and the ability for a player to upload his game highlights to YouTube.
Some characters were also tweaked in terms of their abilities. Notable altered characters were Captain Falcon, Lucina & Marth, Palutena, Wii Fit Trainer and Robin.
The "Super Smash Bros. 4" for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS is the latest installment of the "Super Smash" game franchise. Since its first release in 1999, the fighting video game already featured various crossovers from some famous Nintendo franchises and other third-party games.
