The tech company Sony has started rolling out the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update to Xperia Z series via over-the-air.
According to Xperia Blog, the Android 5.1.1 update (build number - 10.7.A.0.222) is now rolling out to Xperia Tablet Z LTE, Xperia Tablet Z Wi-Fi, Xperia ZR, Xperia ZL and Xperia Z.
Users who are receiving the update notifications should select 'Yes, Download' option, and after downloading, choose 'Install now.' The mobile phone will restart automatically and the operating system will be updated to the latest version.
It is important to note that the process of the roll-out is being carried out in phases, therefore, it will take some time to reach all users.
To check the update manually, go to Settings > About phone > System update > Check Now.
The Android 5.1.1 update brings additional customisation options such as enhanced enterprise support and camera improvements with superior auto-mode focus.
According to several reports, the StageFright secuity vulnerability has not been patched by the tech company in the update which is disappointing since all manufacturers have pushed out fixes for the flaw.
However, last week, the company had released the Android 5.1.1 update with Stagefright bug-fix to Xperia T2 Ultra.
Reports also suggest that Sony may release separate security update pretty soon. However, owners are recommended to take precautionary measures such as disabling automatic MMS read option.
Xperia M2 Aqua, Xperia M2, Xperia C3, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 Compact and Xperia Z1 are some of the other devices that are in the queue to get the latest Android update, according to Venture Capital Post.
