Motorola's David Schuster confirmed that Motorola had begun Android 5.1 Lollipop soak tests for Moto X 1st Gen.
Schuster shared the information on Google+ that the soak tests were being conducted for the Verizon users. He also shared details about keeping the users up to date on anything and everything even remotely related to Motorola. He also confirmed that the original Moto X which was released in 2013 will be getting Android 5.1 Lollipop update soon.
The users of the Moto X 1st Gen with Verizon can finally look forward to getting the Android Lollipop 5.1, which is a far cry from their Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system according to Android Police. The soak test will soon be rolled out, which will update the device completely. The version number for this upgrade is 222.26.7.en.US.
The update will fix the security issues in Moto X 1st Gen, including the persistent issue of the Stage Fright bug. This bug initiates from an MMS video, which is specially sent to infiltrate the device. Once the user opens this video, the hackers get the full access to the device, enabling them to use this info for any purpose. The improvements will also include the stolen device protection feature.
After the successful roll out of this soak test, the entire official update for Android Lollipop 5.1 will arrive, even for the other US network carriers like US Cellular, and Sprint. The entire upgrade is expected to be rolled out within a time period of six weeks from now.
It is also speculated that after the successful rollout of the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for Moto X 1st Gen, the next update in line - Android 5.1.1 Lollipop will also rollout soon. It is also rumored that Moto X 1st Gen may not receive Android Marshmallow update.
