After closing for alpha, "Star Wars: Battlefront" publisher Electronic Arts announced that the game will come to an open beta soon. Latest updates indicate that EA has officially announced availability of the first-person shooter game for open beta on Oct. 8.

The Open beta option will be open to the public and it will run for four days up to Oct. 12. According to Den of Geek, the beta will be open for PS4, Xbox One, and the PC. The open beta will reportedly have three maps, one for each of the planets found in the game: Tatooine, Hoth, and Sullust.

Walker Assault, Drop Zone, and Survival Mission are the three modes that will be available for beta testers. The beta test will give players an opportunity to try out the game and probably find out whether there are any bugs. The game publisher also pointed out that any feedback from the testers will feed into finalizing the game before its official release on Nov. 20.

Meanwhile, the game's Community Manager Matthew Everett announced that the beta test will be accessible for everyone who is willing to take part, Cinema Blend reported. While other games where participation in a beta test normally requires a pre-order purchase, the technical test for "Battlefront" will be totally free.

Everett also said that there will be "cool stuff" taking place during the live beta that fans should watch out for.

Apart from the live beta, Electronic Arts also revealed that Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader will be special playable characters in the game. While the two are called special Hero and Villain, they are only playable for a limited period.

Ordinary gamers will play as Skywalker or Vader for about two minutes as soon as they locate and get a special item on the game map. The moment a player takes on the special Hero or Villain character, special Force or Sith powers will be bestowed to him as well.
