Ubisoft just released an announcement that it will offer freebies and refunds to fans that purchased "Heroes of Might and Magic" and "Magic 7 Collector's Edition" after the company was called out for "deceptive marketing."
In a report from Modvive, Ubisoft handed out promotional materials about the game and cited that they will be offering the game alongside its limited edition for each sale. However, the fans were surprised after buying the game because they did not receive the physical copy of the game as well as the limited edition counterpart.
Moreover, the fans needed to contact Ubisoft because the game did not also have a digital download code.
According to Gamespot, Ubisoft immediately released a statement responding to the fans' claims about their "deceptive marketing" strategy.
In the statement, the company clarified that there was a confusion with the marketing materials for "Might and Magic Heroes VII Collector's Edition." Supposedly, the Collector's Edition would have the digital versions of the game as well as the soundtrack. It should have not been advertised as a physical copy.
However, Ubisoft only highlighted the fans in North America who used the company's Uplay service to buy the game.
Nonetheless, Ubisoft made an effort to extend their regards to the fans and offered free games and refunds as their apology. If the user accepts the refund, the user will receive a digital copy of the following games for free: "Assassin's Creed Rogue," "Far Cry 4," "War Chest Hall of Fame Edition," "The Crew," "Zombi" and "Toy Soldiers."
