"American Horror Story" season 5 "Hotel" star Evan Peters has been receiving positive reviews for his villainous role James March on the hit FX series.

In an interview with Vulture, Peters revealed how exactly he prepared for his serial killer role.

"I read 'The Devil in the White City,' but it was more about researching the 1920s, the 1930s. There's a lot of going to downtown L.A. and looking at the old Art Deco buildings, driving down Broadway and just imagining what it was like back in the day," he said.

Peters also familiarized himself with the 1936 comedy drama movie "My Mad Godfrey," which starred William Powell and Carole Lombard.

"William Powell has a great 1920s, 1930s cadence to his voice. And that movie is sort of an interesting look at society, the rich and the famous doing nothing to help those who are in the dumps from the Great Depression," he said.

Other than watching some movies and reading some books between the 1920s and 1930s, Peters also listened to some music that were released and popularized at that time.

"It's fun to immerse yourself in that time period. They don't have a lot of things that we have now, but they also had so many things that we don't now, in terms of society and reading and language," he said.

Series creator Ryan Murphy spoke with Entertainment Weekly about Peters' accent in "Hotel."

According to him, Peters practiced and sent him four different voice selections, and made him choose which one will be best fit for his role as James.

"American Horror Story" season 5 "Hotel" airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET on FX.
