Marvel Studios eyed on "Interstellar" actor Matthew McConaughey for a role in Marvel's Cinematic Universe.
According to Variety, McConaughey was offered a villain role in James Gunn's forthcoming Marvel Comics film "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2;" however, the actor did not accept the role, leaving the studio and Gunn in search for an actor to play the part. Sources told the publication that a choice should be made in the succeeding weeks, since filming is scheduled to commence in early 2016.
The reason behind McConaughey's refusal to the Marvel role was unrevealed; but then, it is presumed that the reason is linked to the "Interstellar" actor's forthcoming projects next year, according to Cinema Blend.
McConaughey is set to be part of Stephen Gaghan's drama film "Gold," Gary Ross' history drama "The Free State of Jones," Travis Knights' animated film "Kubo and the Two Strings," and an untitled Illumination project.
McConaughey is also known for his roles in Jeff Nichols' drama film "Mud," Jean-Marc Vallee's drama biopic "Dallas Buyers Club," Martin Scorsese's comedy crime "The Wolf of Wall Street," and Christopher Nolan's sci-fi "Interstellar."
"Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2" also stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper (voice), Vin Diesel (voice), Sean Gunn, Karen Gillan, Michael Rooker, and possibly Howard the Duck, among others.
"Sicario" star Benicio del Toro is also set to reprise his role as The Collector while the director teased that there would be one Sneeper in the film. The newest addition to the cast ensemble is "Oldboy" actress Pom Klementieff, who has landed one of the new key roles in Gunn's film sequel. However, the role is still unknown.
Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2" starts principal production in 2016 and is slated to premiere in theaters in United States on May 5, 2017.
