BBC America recently explained the Aldub phenomenon in the Philippines which is made up by two local celebrities Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza also known as Yaya Dub.
The popular news outlet came up with a video to help explain what and who Aldub is to those who are not from the Philippines.
The less than two-minute video opened with a photo of Mendoza doing her signature "Pabebe" wave.
"People across Asia are waving their hands in an entirely new way. Starting in the Philippines it has spread across the world. It's called "Pabebe."
The publication claimed that "Pa" means acting and "Bebe" means cute like a baby.
"First popularized by 'Aldub: Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza' a fictional couple on the hit Filipino TV show "Eat Bulaga! It's based on the cute hand wave often associated with beauty pageants."
The video continued to narrate the beginnings of Aldub, and how the Filipino people, as well as people from all over the world have become hooked to the two fictional characters.
"In September there was even a 'National Pabebe Wave Day.' Over one million people have used the hashtag #Pabebe this month alone. Now US diplomats are joining the fun, even Vin Diesel was asked to do it whilst promoting his new movie."
Meanwhile, the popularity of Aldub has also translated to becoming the number one most tweeted topic on the social media website Twitter.
One recent event turned the overnight sensation into an even more popular Twitter topic that beat the number of tweets posted during the World Cup.
