Ryan Coogler's forthcoming sports drama film "Creed" might get a sequel or two.
According to Roger Friedman of Showbiz 411, the film was so good and everyone in it was said to be so engaging, resulting to "Creed II" on the production's timeline. Friedman also mentioned that "Creed III" would be a next attraction as well.
Friedman he had gotten the information from "Creed" producer himself, Irwin Winkler, who had been dining with powerhouse PR rep Leslee Dart. Friedman added that "Creed" could be the surprise Oscar movie of the season.
Coogler's "Creed" had the opportunity to build its own name in the industry, with credit to Sylvester Stallone's "Rocky Balboa," according to Cinema Blend. After the release of Jose Padilha's action thriller film "Robocop" in 2014 and the upcoming release of Sam Mendes' James Bond film "Spectre," "Creed" is assumed to step up as priority to the executives and producers.
"Creed" follows former World Heavyweight Champion Balboa as a trainer and mentor to Adonis Johnson, the son of his late friend and former rival Apollo Creed. The film stars Tessa Thompson, Wood Harris, Maria Breyman, Michael B. Jordan as Adonis Johnson, and Stallone as Balboa, among others.
With Coogler set to helm the upcoming "Creed," Aaron Covington and Stallone are on board to co-pen the film script. Robert Chartoff, William Chartoff, Nicolas Stern, Kevin King Templeton, David Winkler, and Irwin Winkler are set to co-produce the film.
With the "Creed" sequel still in its early phase of development, exact details on the plot, characters, cast, and release date are yet to be revealed.
Meanwhile, Coogler's "Creed" is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on Nov. 25.
