Oscar De La Hoya believes that a Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather rematch is bound to happen soon. He claimed that the undefeated champion is not yet done with boxing and will return to the ring much sooner than expected.
In an interview with Bloomberg, De La Hoya slams Mayweather, saying that for the latter, everything in boxing is all about the money. While promoting the upcoming fight between Canelo Alvarez and Miguel Cotto, De La Hoya explained that, unlike Mayweather, Alvarez and Cotto are both determined to give the fans a good show.
He admitted that although they also wanted to make money, the boxers fight for passion and to make the audience happy.
In the interview, De La Hoya also called bluff on Mayweather's retirement and claimed that he will be back on the ring with Pacquiao by 2016. He added that Mayweather will fight a "couple of more times."
"I think he will wait until next year, maybe do the rematch with [Manny Pacquiao] Pacquiao and then we'll see what happens," he said.
De La Hoya recently wrote an open letter to Mayweather in Playboy, via USA Today, in which he said that most boxing fans were happy to hear about his retirement. He added that the entire boxing industry will be better off without him.
The boxer also called Mayweather a "boring" fighter as seen in his last fight with Andre Berto. De La Hoya called it a "snooze fest," adding that more people preferred to watch "Family Guy" than to shell out $75 to watch his match.
