Tech giant Google recently released an update for its Android Wear operating system which is a platform for smartwatches. The new Android Wear 1.4 update brings a new set of wrist gestures that can be used to control Android smartwatches.
According to Android Community, one new gesture control allows Android Wear users to swipe their smartwatch's screen left or right by simply flicking their wrist.
Smartwatches running on the Android Wear platform are slowly gaining prominence on the market, thanks in part to Google's regular updates. In less than a year, the Android Wear operating system managed to release updates so that it can support Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and, most recently, cellular network connectivity.
The new Wrist Gesture feature can be enabled by default on most Android Wear smartwatches. If the feature is not automatically activated, users can activate it by simply accessing the Wrist Gesture option under Settings. Also under the Wrist Gesture option, users can calibrate, test and practice using the new feature.
The search engine giant also informed its users that enabling the new Wrist Gesture feature will decrease the battery life of their smartwatch.
Google provided some detailed instructions on how to the new Wrist Gesture feature works. The instructions can be accessed on its official support website.
The Menlo Park-based company highlighted that users can now "Scrolls through cards" and "Take action on a card" with the new Wrist Gesture feature.
Aside from the Wrist Gesture feature, the Android Wear 1.4 update also adds support for audio feedback. This allows smartwatches with speakers to give out audio alerts and notifications, according to NDTV.
