Despite the controversy surrounding EA and its newest title "Star Wars Battlefront," this has not stopped the publisher from celebrating what it deems as the largest launch on a digital platform in its history. Now it has turned its attention to delivering more free content for the game, starting with The Battle of Jakku.
This new content features events preceding what happens in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." While it is a free DLC, there are some expectations that the additional content will help boost the game's reputation and sales, as the release date for the accompanying movie nears.
It will contain two more maps, one of which will be targeted for the modes of Walker Assault and Supremacy, the developer detailed over the official website of "Star Wars Battlefront." There will also be a new mode added, with the goal of letting fans experience some of the events that will allegedly influence the "Star Wars" world.
"We have lots of new content coming over the next several months that will provide new ways to immerse yourself in 'Star Wars.' We will be adding more of what you love about the game, like new maps and Star Cards, for free in the coming months, in addition to all of the content we have coming with Season Pass," said EA's Patrick Söderlund over at the official "Star Wars Battlefront" page.
EA's plans for "Star Wars Battlefront" with The Battle of Jakku does not stop here. The new mode that will come with the new content is dubbed as Turning Point, IGN reported. The content will also provide some context for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." It will bridge the Battle of Endor to the destruction seen in the movie.
The goal in The Battle of Jakku is to find the three control points in the Imperial control and then capture them. There will be a time limit involved, which, if the Rebels successfully execute the objective, the game will progress with more time and control points.
The overarching theme of The Battle of Jakku sees rebels against the super Star Destroyers, all of which are set against a background of chaos and debris. The "Star Wars Battlefront" content The Battle of Jakku will be out on Dec. 8. However, players who have preordered the game can access it a week earlier on Jan. 1.
