First ever custom ROM for a Lumia smartphone has been released. There are numerous custom ROMs available for Android smartphones. Using custom ROMs allow users to access unlocked features, customize the appeal of the user interface, and remove preloaded apps.
For the first time, a custom ROM has been made available for a Lumia smartphone. The custom ROM has been published by WindowsMania.pl for the Lumia 625, WM Power User reported. It means that the custom ROM will not support any other Windows Phone handset.
The Lumia 625 custom ROM that brings along Windows Phone 8.1 GDR2 update is currently available in Polish language. He has included Polish dictionary and speech in the ROM. The ROM allow users to modify accent colors and it also allows users to make minor cosmetic modifications.
The interop unlocking that it brings along will do not allow further changes even when the handset is upgraded to Windows 10 Mobile. It will allow Lumia 625 users to use it with any service provider whether factory-reset is performed or Windows 10 Mobile is installed on the handset.
Speculations are suggesting that in the near future more custom ROMs will be made available for more number of Lumia handsets. Unlike custom ROMs of Android, the ROM that has been published for Lumia 625 does not bring various advanced features. However, it does open an opportunity for users to try third-party modifications, Softpedia reported.
