A survey was conducted by the Legal Affairs Office of the State Council and the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) to gain the public's participation through their valuable opinions regarding the draft of Anti-Domestic Violence Law of the People's Republic of China, Women of China reported.
The two institutions were able to send their respective officials in Fengtai District of Beijing's government office. They held a meeting with the government officials, policemen, judges, lawyers, anti-domestic violence volunteers and women's representatives to further converse about the anti-domestic violence law and suggest additional ways to promote it.
In the course of the meeting, all of the community participants reiterated that through the anti-domestic violence law, people's human rights can further be protected and the promotion of the said rule of law can be strengthened.
Several participants actively shared their collected data and discoveries on their own anti-domestic violence initiatives. Thus, they were able to construct significant suggestions on how to improve and revise the draft law.
Officials Hu Keming, the current deputy director of the Legal Affairs Office, and Tan Lin, who is a member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, were both able to raise their voices during the meeting.
They advised that several considerations should be taken carefully in order to amend the draft: public reception, safety, psychological improvement, trial, and legal support in the fervent battle against domestic violence.
Tan told the community people in the meeting how she aspires to see Beijing women's federations at all levels to take time to pin their ears to the valuable opinions generated by the public.
Also, they should be able to act as a team with concerned parties to fight against domestic violence. They should also help the organizations speed up the legislative process for the draft law.
