Aside from the registering the trademark Always on Display, Samsung has been secretive about its Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. The South Korean tech titan plans to unveil the upcoming flagship smartphones at the upcoming Mobile World Congress on Feb. 21.
Nevertheless, some vital features of the Galaxy 7 have already been leaked in a Spanish tech site. The design of the upcoming flagship handset from Samsung is somewhat similar to the company's Galaxy Note 5.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 will also have a curved rear and a pale golden shade, according to Pisapapeles. The Spanish tech site claimed to have laid their hands on a display model of the upcoming handset.
There are reports that the device will present as subtle leap in design, which will perhaps be everything that the company could have done to present a much improved model to its customers.
It is suggested that people expecting to upgrade to the new Galaxy S7, ought to retain their old Galaxy accessories since the upcoming handset will incorporate similar features, including the normal microUSB connector at its base, rather than a USB-C port. However, some other reports have hinted that the Galaxy S7 will come with the USB-C port and, hence, fans can only know the real specs when the device is unveiled at the MWC later this month.
On the front side, the Samsung S7 will come with a button along with a fingerprint sensor at the base of the device. The website further claimed that the device will have a large snapper on the front, suggesting that it will help in taking superior quality pictures. In fact, having a larger and brighter sensor is always better.
As far as the display screen is concerned, Galaxy S7 will sport an AMOLED screen and come with minimal bezels, which are thinner compared to those in its predecessor, the Galaxy S6.
The new Samsung handset will pack a superior battery that will run the device for two days with a single charge. In addition, it is expected to come with IP68 certification, suggesting that the device will be water-resistant even at low depths.
Meanwhile, Samsung's trademarking of the term "Always on Display" is an indication that the South Korean tech giant is now trying to catch up with its rivals like Google, Motorola and LG, which have already introduced the Ambient Display, Moto Display and Glance View respectively on their latest handsets, Forbes reported. This technology is aimed at displaying information constantly, but without much impact on the device's battery life.
By incorporating the new features, Samsung wants to move ahead of other competitors and be an alternative to the iPhone, rather than being 'just another Android smartphone manufacturer.' The company's ultimate aim is to emerge as the leader in smartphone technology, design and innovation.
