“Mike and Molly” season 6 has been officially cancelled by CBS in December. Lead stars Melissa McCarthy (Molly Flynn) and Billy Gardell (Mike Biggs) revealed that the cancellation still has yet to sink in. Their co-star Rondi Reed also admitted that the producers, including Chuck Lorre, have done everything they can to save the series, including offering it to other networks and perhaps other streaming sites.

At the recent tribute for James Burrows early this week, Gardell shared that filming the last season for "Mike and Molly" has been incredibly difficult and emotional for the cast and crew. He added that they were all saddened by the cancellation, as they have already started to see each other as family.

"We're just trying to get through it," he said.

According to Hollywood Life, James Burrows has been an essential part of the show's success, having directed over 49 episodes.

"Mike and Molly" being cancelled after season 6 definitely came as a shock to almost everyone, including the cast. On her Facebook page, Rondi Reed, who plays Peggy Biggs in the sitcom, broke the news in December.

Reed shared that aside from cancelling "Mike and Molly," CBS decided to cut the episodes to 13 than the earlier announced full renewal order back in March last year. The actress, however, refused to reveal details as to what changed CBS' mind.

In the post, Reed explained that WB and Bonanza Productions (Chuck Lorre) have already explored the possibility of having a new home for "Mike and Molly. Unfortunately, they came out empty handed.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Melissa McCarthy shared that she would have done the show for 50 more years given the opportunity to do so. After hearing that CBS cancelled "Mike and Molly," McCarthy shared that she could not stop crying. She shared that she is going to miss the entire cast and crew.

"It's not very often that you get six years with people that you really do truly love and good work that you're proud of. I think they wrote a hell of a show," McCarthy shared.

CBS has yet to confirm when they will release the remaining episodes of "Mike and Molly" season 6.
