Microsoft's iOS bridge is going to be the only toolkit for the company to send mobile code to the Windows 10 devices like Xbox. This was announced by a Microsoft official following the company's move of acquiring mobile tool vendor Xamarin.
Microsoft was previously reported to discontinue the development of Android "bridge," a toolkit which brings Android apps to the Windows 10. The company is reportedly placing its mobile toolkit in the iOS bridge, instead.
The executives at Microsoft are looking to get more work done for their development toolkits or Windows 10 bridges. The company may provide these toolkits with the technology of Xamarin that will allow F# and C# developers to create local apps for Windows, iOS, Mac OS and Android.
Kevin Gallo, Corporate VP of Program Management for the team of the Windows Developer Platform wrote in the Windows blog post on Feb. 25 about Microsoft's changing Windows 10 developer program. According to Gallo, they are excited to collaborate with Xamarin and they look forward to providing opportunities for developers that will pave the way to make common app code easier to share across Android apps, iOS and Windows while bringing the fully-native experiences in every platform.
While Microsoft provided the bridge that turns websites into Windows 10 app and Silverlight apps to Universal Windows Platform, the Centennial bridge that brings Win32 apps to the Windows Store was delayed. In fact, it was also reported to have delayed and more likely postponed the Android bridge Astoria, ZDNet reported.
Gallo also confirmed on the blog that Microsoft received some feedback that the developers found Android and iOS bridges to be unnecessary due to the fact that a lot of mobile apps are already present on the two platforms. The iOS bridge is going to be the only bridge for Microsoft to bring mobile code to every Windows 10 device like Xbox.
Microsoft delayed the Centennial bridge that will help the developers bring the Win32 apps to the Windows 10 devices. The toolkit is currently in testing stage with a team of developers and is expected to come sometime this year.
