The Ford Raptor is another show stealer during the 2015 Detroit Auto Show besides the Ford GT supercar.
Raj Nair, the global product development vice president for the Ford group, has confirmed the specifications of the EcoBoost-powered Raptor, according to Motor Trend.
Nair announced the new Ford Raptor details during the 24 Hours of Daytona televised interview on Fox Sports over the weekend. The vice president said that the F-150 Raptor will have 450 hp and that its EcoBoost V-6 engine will also power the Ford GT, which will have more than 600 hp.
The F-150 Raptor will have 39 hp more than the outgoing Raptor model with 411 hp that it takes from a 6.2-liter V-8 engine. The former Raptor model has a torque of 434 lb-ft, while the new one with its 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine is expected to make around 420 lb-ft of torque, according to Automobile Mag.
Another new feature for the F-150 Raptor is its significantly reduced weight; it is said that it lost 500 lb due to the new military-grade aluminum alloy that make up the off-road pickup truck. The F-150 Raptor will also be utilizing a 10-speed automatic transmission, which is said to be more efficient than the previous model's six-speed transmission.
However, fans and interested buyers of the new Ford F-150 Raptor will have to wait for two more years as the pickup truck will only be starting its production in the fall of 2016. The truck's launch date has not been confirmed, but it is expected to be released in 2017.
