Have South Korean women heeded too the warning of China’s Ministry of Justice to be wary of popular Korean drama “Descendants of the Sun,” particularly from falling in love too much with main actor Song Joong-ki?
Two days after the ministry warned Chinese women because of the potential legal problems they may face if couples fight over Song, Allkpop reported that the show slipped from the No. 1 position to number 2 among real-time searches by single women in South Korea. The KPop group BTOB surged ahead of “Descendants of the Sun” with a rating of 12.6 percent, while the drama got 12.4 percent.
If the searchers are single ladies, does it mean married Korean women want to avoid developing problems with their husbands out of jealousy over the attention being given to Song? The warning may have been intended for Chinese women, but it could apply as well to their Asian sisters from Seoul or Tokyo.
That’s because the KBS TV drama series which airs on Wednesday and Thursday simultaneously in South Korea and China is soon coming to Japan, reported Korea Times. The 16-episode drama, this week on its 7th, was purchased by a Japanese broadcaster from KBS for $100,000 per episode.
The sale could signal the resumption of airing of Korean drama and shows on Japanese TV. Tokyo’s conflict with Seoul over ownership of the islets of Dokdo, the issue of comfort women and other issues have resulted in cold diplomatic relationship between the Asian neighbors, resulting in Japanese broadcasters unsure for years of importing Korean TV shows.
Meanwhile, the upstarts BTOB are reported to be preparing for a comeback by late March or early April.
