The mint Honda's 2017 Acura NSX has just seen its release and technically speaking, it beats the BMW i8 by both power and price. Its features also hint that it will rival other celebrated cars like Aston Martin and Porsche 911 Turbo. According to several reviews, the car is termed as complex, extremely fast, and technically advanced than most cars on the road.
To start with, this Honda's hybrid car has come with much more performance than its predecessor. Even though it still parks a V6 engine under its hood, it now comes with a pair of turbochargers and capability of producing more than 500hp. Also, the V6 engine is assembled with the frame of the vehicle in a different fashion than most cars. Specifically, it is mounted between the cockpit and the rear axle in a longitudinal style.
Besides the engine, the car also has a hybrid system consisting of three motor units. Two of the motors are located at the front wheels and each generates 36hp.The third one feeds into the same transmission system as the engine and produces 47hp, Slash Gear reported. Working as one, it is rumored that the engine and the motors will push the power beyond 550hp once the car is finally produced.
The hybrid structure makes up for at least 300Ibs of the NSX's 3,803Ibs. Judging from this, it seems that even without the MGUs and the batteries, the NSX will be heavier than the previous model whose weight added up to 3,153Ibs.
As of now, the capacity of the car's lithium-ion batteries is not yet known. However, reports say that the NSX cannot be plugged in in sockets to charge batteries. Rather, the car will top them up using regenerative breaking system of the MGUs. The result will be a car that owners will drive in short distances under electric power with no need of charging whatsoever.
In terms of speed, it takes the Acura NSX only three seconds to reach 60mph. This is achieved by its automated manual nine-speed dual clutch transmission system. The car then stretches to a top speed of 190mph which is considerably fast for a hybrid car of its kind, Car and Driver reported.
These speed statistics make the NSX superior to the BMW i8. Furthermore, another aspect that it has which the i8 lacks is the ability to handle high speeds. Even when it comes to stopping, its legendary brakes enable it to make a smooth stop. Also, further enhancements like torque vectoring make its performance stand out among other cars.
According to the latest updates, the company will start taking orders at the end of February 2017 with prices starting from $156,000. Nevertheless, other models will have added costs to top up the price up to $200,000.
