Background

"Ordinal Scale" is the name of a game after "Gun Gale Online" and "Sword Art Online." The game is specifically designed for "Augma," a new augmented reality device which is much smaller than the existing VR devices. It looks like a pair of headphones and is much more superior to traditional devices in terms of portability and size. Although it lacks a full-dive function, it can transmit audio, visual, and tactual sensation data to gamers while they are alert.

"Ordinal Scale" has become one of the most discussed games because of its advanced technology. Players raise their rank in the game by collecting items that appear in the real world along with defeating monsters. Highly ranked players acquire awe-inspiring power and become major factors in deciding the outcomes of battles.

Storyline

As per the eye-openers, "Ordinal Scale" film will cover an original story which will happen after the Mother's Rosario arc; the final arc presented in the TV anime series in season 2. The narrative is not yet clear, but it will be penned by none other than Reki Kawahara. His light novel series includes volume 7 of the series while the second half of the second season covers the Calibur arc of volume 8 which was aired just before the Mother's Rosario arc.

In the film, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka is going to reappear as Kirito while Haruka Tomatsu is going to play Asuna. Yuki Kajiura will then perform the role of "Ordinal Scale's" soundtrack editor. Besides this, some character designs have been revealed as well as a visual of the movie under the designs of "Sword Art Online" illustrator Abec.

According to IGN, "Sword Art Online" movie was announced back in October 2015. Since then, nothing noteworthy has been heard about it until the trailer was released recently in the official "Sword Art" website. Another trailer has also been released by the Japanese website although it is exclusive to the Japan region.

In the meantime, fans have exhibited their excitement for the "Ordinal Scale" movie in various forums and this can only mean that the "Sword Art Online" team has a lot of people looking up to it.
