Along with the introduction of the new iPhone SE and the 9.7-inch iPad Pro in a recently held Apple event in March 21, Apple also released new versions of the company's MAC and mobile operating systems - OS X 10.11.4 El Capitan and iOS 9.3.

OS X 10.11.4 El Capitan and iOS 9.3 came with new features and noteworthy number of improvements. Some of the changes that OS X 10.11.4 El Capitan and iOS 9.3 introduced to its early adopters were numerous security fixes, Night Shift mode and extended Wi-Fi calling support; however, the update also came with bugs that are now causing users some major problems.

According to MacRumors, their forums, along with Apple Support Communities and social media networks, was plague with complaints from users who are unable to log in to their FaceTime and iMessage. It is said that this had happened after the users updated their operating systems to OS X 10.11.4.

Following the OS X 10.11.4 El Capitan update, users are getting pop-up error messages that read "An error occurred during authentication" and "Could not sign in to iMessage." On the other hand, some users are complaining that the log in process seems to be working, as the iMessage setup window seems to send user ID information to Apple's servers; however, the process never fully completes and users are not also getting any error pop-up.

As of this writing, no information yet on the percentage of MACs that were affected by the issue, although, Apple Insider notes that all complaints that they received came from users of older model hardware and the newer ones.

Furthermore, an unnamed user said that they have spoken to Apple Support, and where informed that the Cupertino-based tech giant is already aware of the issue and is now working on a fix. Although, other users, who reported the same issue to Apple Support, claims that the Cupertino-based tech giant responded and was unaware of the problem but would escalate the problem.

For the meantime, users have tried other work around to fix the issue that includes performing clean install, turning two-step verification on and off, disabling firewall, signing out from iCloud and even attempted to use third party password generator app, but to no avail. The complicated thing is that, even users who downgraded to OS X 10.11.3 are still experiencing the same issue.

UPDATE: The issue seems to be on the server side of Apple and not related to the software update. As of now, the Apple System Status shows green and FaceTime and iMessage can now be activated. For those users who are still getting the same error, log out from iCloud and log back in, then wait for both services to be activated.
