"The Vampire Diaries" alum Nina Dobrev's exit from the hit The CW show is reportedly one of the most controversial TV departures of all time.

According to Hollywood Life, Dobrev's exit from "The Vampire Diaries" after season 6 came as a shock not only to fans, but also to the actress' co-stars.

"For Delena fans, this was the worst thing ever, but we all have hope Nina will return. She's in a permanent nap state until Bonnie dies, but they could definitely find a way around that!" the publication noted.

Meanwhile, also included in the publication's list is Patrick Dempsey's exit from "Grey's Anatomy" after season 11.

Just like Dobrev's exit from "The Vampire Diaries," fans were also shocked to see Dempsey go.

To make things worse, fans learned that there's no hope for Dempsey to return because his character Derek Shepherd has already been killed off by executive producer Shonda Rhimes.

"Derek Shepherd was the last character anyone expected to get killed off 'Grey's Anatomy.' The character's death was shocking and sudden, and fans were left reeling. Shonda Rhimes knows how to pull at the heart strings, and saying goodbye to McDreamy was nearly impossible," the publication also noted.

Meanwhile, there are some rumors that Dobrev could return to "The Vampire Diaries" next season especially if it will be the show's last.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Julie Plec said there's still a lot of potential to expand Elena Gilbert's storyline on the show.

"All I can say is that Damon is committed to being at Elena's side when she wakes up in however many years it takes, and he's going to do everything he can to make sure he still believes he's worthy of her," Plec said.

However, as of late, there are also some rumors suggesting that Dobrev may no longer agree to return to "The Vampire Diaries" especially after she left the series out of the blue.

For some fans, Dobrev's departure from "TVD" should just remain as such because they have already moved on from her.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 airs Fridays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
