Besides re-releasing "Resident Evil 4, 5 and 6" on Xbox One and PS4, news about any upcoming "Resident Evil" game would be a remake of the first sequel. The game developer company, Capcom, has been tight-lipped about "Resident Evil 7," possibly because of something else being under development.
A third CGI film is in the works after "Resident Evil: Degeneration" that came out in 2008 and the 2012 "Resident Evil: Damnation," according to Daily Sun. The publication pointed out that while these animated movies are not major blockbusters, they are definitely better than the live action films featuring Milla Jovovich.
Slated for a release in 2017, the upcoming film is titled "Resident Evil: Vendetta." The film will feature Leon S. Kennedy as the main protagonist. Recent game titles reveal that Kennedy has become the poster boy of survival horror franchise.
Capcom will reportedly use the upcoming film as a distraction to allow more time for the development of a better "Resident Evil 7" than the previous installments. Meanwhile, as fans wait for the actual "Resident Evil 7" game to debut, they have a chance to watch musical productions based on the game. "Musical Resident Evil" will feature Reon Suzuki as a star headlining the all-female Takarazuka Revue, according to Kotaku.
The same publication suggested that G2 will direct and playwright the game with the narrative arc focusing on the original story. "Musical Resident Evil" will run from September to October in Tokyo, before hitting Osaka in November. "Resident Evil" producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi will oversea the stage production.
Therefore, previous reports that Capcom will be releasing the highly awaited "Resident Evil 7" in 2017 may be far-fetched. There were speculations that the game will return to the roots, allowing fans to see the original horror story after the sixth installment fell short of fans' expectations.
It is expected that Capcom will launch the first gameplay footage for the upcoming "Resident Evil 7" game before the announcement of the official premiere date. Fans have been complaining that "Resident Evil 6" focused too much on gunplay as opposed to increased tension and setting.
