Actor Harrison Ford who popularized the role of Han Solo in the "Star Wars" films has donated the jacket worn by his character to an auction. The donation was made in honor of his daughter, a one-time epilepsy sufferer to raise funds for research.

Ford autographed and donated the jacket to be auctioned online at If Only. According to the Daily Mail proceeds from the auction will go towards funding research at FACES (Finding A Cure for Epilepsy and Seizures) and the NYU Langone Center .

The star of "Indiana Jones" has been a supporter of the Langone Center for a long time, the publication reported. Georgia Ford , 25, the actor's daughter was diagnosed with epilepsy by Dr. Orrin Devinsky at the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center.

Ford's daughter suffered for years with seizures and health scares owing to her condition reports claimed. Furthermore, it was reported that the rugged Ford was moved to tears recently when referring to his daughters condition at a gala for FACES.

The actor who chaired the event honored Dr. Orrin Devinsky, who helped his daughter with her condition.
"Dr. Orrin and FACES have been a great service to my family," Ford was quoted as saying in the publication. He said he was grateful to the medical team that looked after his daughter.

Ford told those gathered at the gala that his daughter was treated for the condition nine years ago. He said having received treatment at the center she has not had a seizure since. The star also took the opportunity to praise his offspring by referring to her as his "hero."

In a statement obtained by Today and attributed to Ford, the Oscar-nominated star said epilepsy was a cause that was "near and dear" to him. Ford added in the statement that unlike his cynical onscreen character Han Solo, he had a "good feeling" about the auction.

Bidding at the online auction opened recently with bids amounting to $18,000. The eagerly awaited blockbuster sequel where Ford sported the jacket has generated more than a $ 1billion globally. The auction for the jacket ends on April 11.
