"Descendants of the Sun" lead actors Kim Ji Won and Jin Goo are using their loveable relationship to encourage fans into watching their hit drama when it airs on TV.
On April 7, Jin posted a video of himself holding hands with Kim on Instagram, with the pair walking backwards on the street, Soompi reported. The video then shows Kim asking the camera, "Where are we heading now?" Jim subsequently replies that they are on their way to watch "Descendants of the Sun" live.
The pair later yells excitedly "Go go!" and sprints off down the road. Kim is seen closely following Jin as they run their way to watch "Descendants of the Sun."
The two lead actors were in Hong Kong on April 5 for the series' first foreign promotional activity. Thanks to Chinese investments, reports claim that the Korean drama has recently broken a couple of records, with the popularity of the show swiftly paying off its $11 million production cost.
China's Baidu video-streaming partner iQiyi.com bought exclusive rights to stream the show in China for $250,000 per episode, which by overall calculations, is equivalent to 40 percent of the production costs. Initially, the show got a simultaneous release in both Korea and China, where it got over 1 billion views.
According to Forbes, the drama just premiered in Hong Kong on April 6 on Viu TV, a local channel. The show is also currently available on Viu's k-drama streaming website Vui.com, where it already stands out as the most watched show.
What is more, the show is the most popular television series in South Korea, reaching the highest spot with approximately 30 percent of the country's audience portion just after five episodes of airing. Last week, the 11th episode had an estimated view of 34.3 percent of South Korea's capital audience, reaching a record rating of 40.9 percent.
"Descendants of the Sun" is a romantic play between an army captain (Song Joong-Ki) and an army doctor (Song Hye-Kyo). The production of the play is set in a fictional war-torn Mediterranean country called "Uruk where the two preserve their passionate bond.
