"The Vampire Diaries" alum Nina Dobrev is confirmed to return to the hit The CW show in season 8.

A source told Hollywood Life that the 26-year-old actress is on board with what executive producer Julie Plec said a few months ago.

At that time, Plec said that she is still hopeful Dobrev will be open to the idea of returning to "The Vampire Diaries" because her character Elena Gilbert still has some untold stories.

"When the show ends Nina will be a part of it some way, shape or form. She is 10,000 percent coming back," the source said.

Meanwhile, the same publication claimed in a separate article that Ian Somerhalder's wife Nikki Reed is actually very supportive of the idea that her husband and Dobrev could reunite on the show.

"Nikki and Ian are so in love. There's nothing he could possibly do to upset her. The idea of Nina and Ian reuniting on screen for 'The Vampire Diaries' doesn't bother her one bit. She has no issues with this whatsoever. Nikki and Ian are celebrating their one year anniversary on April 26, and that's what she's most looking forward to for the time being," a source told the publication.

In other news, Somerhalder just confirmed that "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 will be the last installment for the hit series.

According to him, they intentionally decided to have the series renewed for another season so they will have the chance to wrap up the show on a high note.

Even though the actor didn't explain what he meant by what he said, some viewers believe that the storylines for season 8 will be very conclusive.

Whichever storylines from the previous seasons that were left unanswered will finally be given a conclusion.

For instance, it's possible that Caroline (Candice Accola-King) and Alaric's (Matt Davis) relationship may flourish or the former could end up with "The Originals" character Klaus (Joseph Morgan).

Stefan could officially get into a relationship with his ex-girlfriend Valerie, and Damon and Elena could most likely reunite.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 airs Fridays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
