MacBook Pro 2016 updates: Laptop’s GPU is about to get a lot more powerful

If reports are anything to go by, the GPU of MacBook Pro 2016 is about to get a lot more powerful.

Graphics processing providers Nvidia and AMD will reveal new GPU products in 2016 featuring TSMC's 16 nm FinFET Plus and Global Foundries' 14 nm FinFET processor nodes, allowing for notable improvements in graphics performance.

Nvidia's 'Pascal' and AMD's 'Polaris' architectures use the newest FinFET silicon processes. Earlier this year, AMD said that the 14 nm Polaris GPUs will offer more than double the performance per watt of the 28 nm predecessors. According to reports, AMD will use Global Foundries' 14 nm FinFET process and Nvidia will use TSMC's 16 nm process.

Furthermore, the tech company confirmed that it will use TSMC for its higher power product offerings.

Reports suggest that the product launches for the new GPUs will happen around the summer timeframe.
Also, it is expected that the new architectures will use a variety of new high-speed memories such as HBM2 and GDDR5x.

CEO of AMD said that laptops and desktops featuring the new Polaris GPUs will release before the back to school season. When it comes to its product lines, Apple has alternated between GPU offerings from Nvidia and AMD. According to reports, AMD owns the wins for the newest iterations of the MacBook Pro and iMac lines.

There are speculations that the MacBook Pro 2016 will arrive at WWDC in June this year, Macworld reported. However, it is not known whether the Cupertino-based Apple will be able to feature the forthcoming GPUs within that timeframe or not.

Sometimes, the software company has been very fast to incorporate the newest technology from its partners. However, other times the company waited for some time before upgrading.

Meanwhile, according to many reports, Apple may not release the MacBook Air 2016 this year. It is expected that the company will focus on MacBook Pro models and the 12-inch Retina MacBook. Also, a report from MacRumors suggests that the software giant will release 15-inch and 13-inch MacBooks with designs inspired by the 12-inch MacBook.

The 12-inch MacBook was launched in 2015. Rumors are doing the rounds that Apple will unveil MacBook Pro's that are lighter and slimmer than the present MacBook Air models.
