In an interview with Zap2It, Peterson said that their plans for Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan (Emily Deschanel) have been mapped out. "Looking at Season 12, we're just saying, 'Make this an event. Make this something where every episode really counts.'"

Peterson revealed that "Bones" season 12 aims to tie the loose ends in Booth and Brennan's story. He shared that they reviewed some of the episodes in the early seasons and noticed that there were a few arcs that seemed unfinished. He hinted that "Bones" was supposed to end by season 11 but because they wanted to give fans a satisfying conclusion, they went ahead and pitched for another season.

Speaking to TV Insider, Peterson thanked Fox for giving them another season, an opportunity to end things right. He explained that most of "Bones" season 12 will likely feature Booth and Brennan and some of the personal arcs which have not been addressed since the first season.

Peterson also shared that fans will be taken on a rollercoaster ride come "Bones" season 12. He shared that while Booth and Brennan's final season may not go on smoothly, he promised fans that they were writing the final episodes from the fans' perspective. Peterson shared that they just needed to trust the writers on this one, adding that they were after all, fans of the show.

"We'll put you through a lot, but we'll come out in a very good place," he explained.

In the interview, Peterson also mentioned that they are not closing doors to the possibility of another crossover. He explained that they enjoyed the "Sleepy Hollow" crossover and would want to do another one in a different series in the future. Zap2It author Lindsay Macdonald suggested doing a "Bones - Lucifer" crossover, which Peterson thought would be a good idea.
