Liu Xiaoqing, a Chinese actress from the 1980s, is one of the stars of upcoming action comedy “For A Few Bullets.” Best known for her role as Wu Zetian, the only female emperor of China, Liu says the new movie, which premieres on July 15, would showcase her comedic talent.
Her co-stars in the movie are Zhang Jingchu, a veteran actress, and lead actor Lin Gengxin, known for his role in Tsui Hark’s “The Taking of Tiger Mountain.” China Daily reported that “For A Few Bullets” is financed by Wanda Pictures, a major movie producer in China.
“For A Few Bullets” is said to be China’s version of the “Mission: Impossible” franchise, starring Tom Cruise, according to the movie actors at a promotion event on Thursday in Beijing. Many scenes in the treasure-hunting adventure film, with some romance, are in a casino.
When Lin read the script, he immediately liked it because of the plot which is heavy with action, bringing to mind “Mission: Impossible,” the actor’s favorite movie. Lin describes the upcoming film as “It’s an unusual thriller which has a lot of humorous elements and tough fights.”
Liu added that her character is a funny jitterbug which helped the actress show her humorous side which she admittedly said she has not been given many chances to show in cinemas.
Two foreign-born actors are part of the movie. They are Vivian Dawson, a New Zealand actor, and Tengger, a singer-composer from Mongolia.
The movie, titled also "Kuai Shou Qiang Shou Kuai Qiang Shou," in Chinese, is directed by Pan Anzi, reported CRIEnglish. Pan pointed out that the main actors play roles that are out of their comfort zones which should make the film interesting.
