‘NCIS' Season 13 spoilers: Anthony DiNozzo's exit teased; Gary Glasberg opens up about Michael Weatherly's departure

"NCIS" season 3 will see Michael Weatherly exiting the franchise very soon.

In an interview with TV Line, executive producer Gary Glasberg hinted on what they have planned for Weatherly's Anthony DiNozzo character.

"We established early on there were choices that Tony was going to be making as he's looking at his career... He's going to find himself at a bit of a crossroads, with some significant issues to deal with," he said.

The exec also hinted on the possibility of Anthony being killed off in the finale episode. Although he didn't exactly say this would happen, Glasberg simply said that fans should be ready for a roller coaster of a finale next month.

Glasberg also confirmed that Anthony's father on the show will return in the upcoming episode where the former will officially exit.

Meanwhile, the exec added that Weatherly's departure will surely bring tears to the eyes of viewers.

"People should absolutely be planning on some really serious, heart-wrenching moments. There'll be tissues involved. I'm very proud of the emotional resonance of what this is, even in terms of what we're filming right now in the finale," he said.

Glasberg added that Anthony will have touching moments with some of the other characters on the show including Gibbs (Mark Harmon).

When asked to share some information about Anthony and Gibb's encounter, Glasberg said that it's "an amazing moment that really resulted in something that I didn't see coming."

In other news, there are also some rumors that Weatherly's exit will bring two new characters on the show.

According to Glasberg, they were actually interested in bringing two new characters and have already met up with prospective actors. However, nothing has been finalized yet so it's also possible that they won't push through with their plans.

"I really wouldn't read into that. There are two actors and two characters that we were intrigued by and interested in working with, and we'll have to see where it goes. But no, it wasn't about subtracting in one pool and adding in another," he explained.

"NCIS" season 13 will air its finale episode on May 17.
