Beijing may just played host to the staging of the Miss Plus Size International Beauty Pageant on Monday, won by a Zimbabwe student, but insofar as majority of Chinese female netizens are concerned, “thin is in.”

Criticisms over the past body parts viral Weibo trends such as the A4 Challenge, iPhone 6 Challenge and Ballpen under Breast Challenge, have failed to dent the young Chinese women’s penchant for showing off their slim figures on the popular microblogging site.

What’s on Weibo reported that the latest hashtag on the social media site is #The Big Weight Loss Challenge# which encourages women to post their workout photos and lose weight. This is more than just posting their sexy body images but is a competition that begins on May 6 under Weibo’s official workout account @Weibo Fit.

Participants could win red envelopes because the competition has several major sports-related influential microbloggers as hosts. There is Zhang Jingqi Unlimited and Figure Master who has more than 2.4 million followers that often shares exercise videos.

Ahead of the competition, the hashtag has become trending on Weibo beginning April 28. While the competition’s aim is to promote exercise, like the previous challenges, the focus of the photo posters are their slim waistlines.

Mulan posted that with her height of 160 centimeters and weight of 55 kilograms, her goal in to be slender, not plump, by removing fat on her belly and legs, but keeping her bosom ample.

But some netizens used the hashtag to post photos of sinful food, although they promised to begin losing weight the next day.
