It has been almost four years since Capcom released the sixth installment of their "Resident Evil" franchise. "Resident Evil 6," or "Biohazard 6" as it is known in Japan, has since received lukewarm reviews from casual gamers and critics alike. Most of the criticism claims that the game has veered very far away from its horror roots. Despite the reviews, the game has sold an impressive 6.3 million units as of late 2015.

Currently, several reports claim that fans should expect "Resident Evil 7" anytime soon. Moreover, these reports reveal that the seventh iteration of the game would see a return to the title's survival horror roots.

Capcom has yet to confirm the arrival of "Resident Evil 7"; however, in 2015, Game Rant revealed that the game would be available before the turn of 2015. In their article, Game Rant cited a report sent out by SuperData, a digital games research company, claiming that major franchises including "Halo" and "Resident Evil" would be coming out with new installments by fall of 2015.

"We anticipate this month's downturn to level off during the coming few months, following a regular seasonal pattern but expect to see an upswing as the next editions of several major franchises like Haloand Resident Evil come out in the 2015 fall season," read a part of SuperData's statement.

Unfortunately, 2015 has come and gone, and Capcom has yet to release "Resident Evil 7." Nevertheless, Resident Evil producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi recently revealed that the upcoming game would be returning to the horror genre.

During a recent question and answer session with Kobayashi, as reported by Cinema Blend, the producer was asked about his comment on the sentiments of fans surrounding "Resident Evil 6." He was made aware of the disappointment, detailing how the sixth installment is completely different from the previous "Resident Evil" games.

Kobayashi hinted during the event that he is currently considering and preparing for "Resident Evil's" return to its survival horror roots.

"Since there's been more spinoff titles, I can see how it can be perceived in such a way. And of course I believe that we should produce titles that bring out the horror. I'm thinking about it and also preparing for it," quipped by Kobayashi.
