Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) is reportedly removing the Smart Connector on the upcoming iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus which may disappoint fans as it could have been a game-changing feature on the new flagship phone.

Loyal followers of the Cupertino-based tech giant have been waiting for the official unveiling of their next smartphone. However, details have only come from leaks and speculations around the Internet.

The new reports coming from reliable Japanese Mac Otakara blog claim that the Smart Connector will be pulled from the final iPhone 7 model. Earlier leaks have shown that the connector was part of the prototype for the upcoming smartphone from Apple, according to Forbes.

For some users, the Smart Connector is a big thing. It has been introduced by Apple in their iPad Pro range and it allowed the Lightning port to provide data transfers and power simultaneously.

The iPhone 7 could have had the feature to be charged and connected to a Mac at the same time. Third-party keyboards could also be used without the need for batteries.

Another thing that Apple could have pulled back from the iPhone 7 development is a new design chassis. The company could stick with the current design scheme found in the iPhone 6.

Still, it did not faze fans from wanting the new phone. A recent survey showed that more fans are excited for the iPhone 7 compared to when the iPhone 6s was launched.

The Smart Connector could have added more features and smart attachments for the phone. Mini-keyboards and portable hard drive compatibility are just some of the devices that could have been made possible.

There is also the possibility that Apple did not plan for a Smart Connector on the iPhone 7 at all, according to Mac Rumors. Other features such as the waterproof capabilities, the headphone jack removal, new stereo speakers and new Touch ID sensors have also conflicted with other rumors and speculations.

Apple could unveil the iPhone 7 at their Worldwide Developers Conference or another exclusive event. Fans will finally be able to know whether it will have a Smart Connector or not, plus what the other features may entail.
