Middling side Guangzhou R&F snapped Chongqing Lifan's five-game undefeated run, 2-0, while Liaoning Whowin held Shanghai Greenland Shenhua to a goalless draw during the team's matchday 8 games in the 2016 Chinese Super League season.

Guangzhou R&F blanked Chongqing Lifan, 2-0, at their home field of Yuexiushan Stadium last Saturday to hand the visitors their first loss after five consecutive drawn matches, as reported by Xinhuanet.

Blue Lions midfielder Tang Miao opened the scoring at the 39th minute of the match to give the hosts the upperhand at the half.

Local striker Xiao Zhi then doubled the lead nine minutes after the restart with a brilliant diving header off an assist from winger Jiang Zhipeng to seal the win for head coach Dragan Stojković's side.

The victory was the second straight for Guangzhou as it also extended their unbeaten streak to three games. The team is now at the seventh place of the 16-team China top flight table, six points below the third AFC Champions League slot held by Shanghai SIPG and five points above the bottom two relegation area presently occupied by Beijing Guoan and Changchun Yatai.

Meanwhile, struggling team Liaoning Whowin managed to force a scoreless tie against another middling squad Shanghai Shenhua in their most recent CSL match at the Shenyang Olympic Sports Center Stadium also last Saturday, as per Soccerway.

It was the seventh consecutive winless performance for the Northeast Tigers as they had drawn three and lost three of their previous six matches. Their plays in the offensive end continue to be the problem for head coach Ma Lin's boys as they were not able to score a goal for the fourth time in five games.

The last time Liaoning was able to score goals was during their matchday 5 clash with Tianjin Teda that ended in a 2-2 tie.

Liaoning had a chance to score at the 19th minute, but Zambian striker James Chamanga was not able to score in a one-on-one against Shanghai Shenhua goalkeeper Li Shuai.

"We cannot score after making chances. That explained why we could not win," said Ma after the match.

The Liao-Tigerkins are third from the last spot in the current table, only a point above the bottom two relegation zone.
