New details for "Assassin's Creed" movie will feature the game being connected to the "Assassin's Creed" video game series and being compare to the "Star Wars" films.
The trailer of the much awaited "Assassin's Creed" movie has been released online starring "X-Men: Apocalypse" star Michael Fassbender as both Callum Lynch and his 15th century assassin Aguilar de Nerha. In the film, Fassbender's character Callum Lynch is a death row inmate, who has been acquired by Abstergo Industries to pry open his memories. He is woken up by Sophia Rikkin (Marion Cotillard), a scientist working on the Animus project and explains to him that Animus can unlock his genetic code explore his memories of his past lives. Lynch discovers that his ancestor Aguilar is a member of an ancient society known only as the "Assassins" and their goal is to stop the tyrannic rule of the Templar Order during the Spanish Inquisition.
Fassbender explained the complexity of playing both Callum Lynch and Aguilar de Nerha as he told Collider that one character does not say alot, while the other does. He described the first protagonist, Callum as being a "lost soul" and has no sense of belonging since he did not realize that he was part of an ancient organization.
Aguilar on the other hand, is a "somebody" within the creed due to him having a cause and has been following it ever since he joined the Assassins. Aguilar in the film might teach Callum something about the Assassins as he explore further about his ancestors and find his purpose in life.
Fassbender added that he compared the "Assassin's Creed" movie to that of the "Star Wars" film franchise, having both light and dark sides contradicting one another and themselves all the time, in a sense that is how the Assassins and the Templars are in both film and the video game series.
In other news, Ubisoft stated that the "Assassin's Creed" movie will be part of the "Assassin's Creed" video game continuity in a sense that Fassbender's characters will meet with other characters from the game such as Desmond Miles and his ancestors.
It theorized that Aguilar could likely meet another Assassin such as "Assassin's Creed 2" fan-favorite Ezio Auditore da Firenze as both movie and second game takes place in the same timeline. One such possibility would be the spinoff game "Assassin’s Creed II: Discovery", were in it is set 1490 and features a story where Ezio travel to Spain to rescue a group of Assassins. He comes into conflict with the Templars, who have imprisoned a number of Assassins under the guise of the Spanish Inquisition and Aguilar might be one of those prisoners, Screenrant reported.
"Assassin’s Creed" movie will be in cinemas on Dec. 21.
