Users who own HTC Desire 820 and have been eagerly waiting for the Android Marshmallow update to roll out on their devices can finally smile. The 2-year-old smartphone is finally being updated to Google's latest Operating System.

HTC Desire 820 is benefiting from the over-the-air software update, which reportedly started rolling out on May 13, according to GSM Arena. The smartphone will now move from Android Lollipop to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

Apart from the Android version 6.0.1, the device is also receiving the version 7.0 of the HTC Sense UI. However, it is unclear exactly which regions are receiving the update. Although the publication notes that the regions where the software update is rolling out are still unknown, the arrival of Android Marshmallow for HTC Desire 820 will excite users.

The update for the handset comes with the software version 3.17.720.3 based on the screenshot shared by the tipster. The OTA update not only brings Sense UI 7.0, but also numerous Marshmallow goodies. After the update, device users will save their battery thanks to the new Doze mode.

Another feature associated with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow is the Google Now on Tap. Activating the Now on Tap feature from Android update, a user should hold down the home button and wait for the "frame" animation around the screen to complete, according to Android Police. The App Permissions as well enable users to exercise more control over the data access the apps have.

With regard to the smartphone features, the HTC Desire 820 has a 5.5-inch HD screen with a resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels. The device houses Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor under the hood, four 1.0 GHz cores and four 1.5 GHz cores, besides 2 GB of RAM.

The smartphone as well comes with a 13MP main camera and an 8MP front camera for selfies. HTC Desire 820 sports a 2600mAh battery and during the launch in 2014, the smartphone came with Android 4.4 KitKat before it was later updated to Android Lollipop.

Since software updates are normally released in stages, it may take some time before hitting every user's handset. Customers can check if their devices have received the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update by going to Settings > About Device > Software Updates > Check for Updates.
