The success of Sony can be attributed to the company's decisive strategies in developing product lines, and according to recent reports, Sony would once again shake up their smartphone offerings - discontinuing a few Xperia smartphone series and focusing on just one, the Xperia X line.

Japanese electronics manufacturing company Sony was treated kindly by 2015, at least when it comes to their smartphone sales. According to data, the previous fiscal year saw the company earn a total of $75.5 billion - 21 percent of which can be attributed to mobile and communication products. The company currently holds more than 2 percent of the total global phone market after selling 10.38 million handsets across the globe.

According to Softpedia, the Japanese company is planning to discontinue their Xperia C and Xperia Z lines in order to develop smartphones under a sole Xperia series - the Xperia X line. The news outlet recently obtained leaked images from a Sony presentation detailing their goals, timelines and promotional products for the Xperia X handsets. The leaked images seem to coincide with a rumor that Xperia X smartphones would be released across Europe later in the year.

In addition, recent report claims that Sony would be making Xperia X, Xperia XA and the flagship Xperia Performance available in just a couple of months, although the phones are now available for pre-purchase in France, Italy, Spain, Netherlands and Sweden. The flagship Sony Xperia X phone, the Xperia X Performance is expected to sell for 699 Euros in France.

Sony has yet to confirm whether or not the Xperia X phones would be available for purchase in the U.K. and Germany around the same time as other European countries. Likewise, the company has not confirmed the release of the Xperia X phones across the United States - at least not yet.

For reference, the first handset in the Sony Xperia C line was initially launched almost three years ago (June 2013), and the phone was initially intended for the Chinese market. Nevertheless, it managed to sell over one million units in the first three months. The Sony Xperia Z, on the other hand, was released a few months before the Xperia C in February 2013.
