German Chancellor Angela Merkel met with China’s State Councilor Yang Jiechi on Saturday to talk about further cooperation between the two nations.
Yang, a participant in the 51st Munich Security Conference in Germany, also conveyed greetings from President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang to Merkel, the Xinhua News Agency reported on Sunday.
Yang said that the two nations have had close high-level exchanges in the previous year and established a solid strategic partnership.
The councilor also noted the importance of Sino-German relations and that China is open to strengthening the mutually beneficial partnership with the European superpower in all fields. He also stated Beijing's willingness to work with Germany in holding important bilateral activities such as the Year of China-Germany Innovative Cooperation.
In turn, Merkel asked Yang to convey her good wishes to Xi and Li and expressed hope for increased cooperation between the two nations.
The Munich Security Conference, a key annual forum for world leaders and experts to discuss major security issues, began on Friday in the southern German city of Munich and ended on Sunday, Feb. 8.
In his address at Friday's conference, Yang expanded China's concept for a common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security.
Yang also met with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu, Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Kumar Doval, and other delegates in Munich and shared views on the building of ties between China and their countries as well as major international and regional concerns.
