Android phone users can now use the Gello web browser as it arrives in CyanogenMod 13 versions after it has been announced for almost a year.
The Gello web browser is an open-sourced Chromium browser for Android smartphones. Users will be able to use the app as it will be baked on the CyanogenMod 13 version for select Android devices.
What is interesting about the new app is that almost all of the features found in the mobile Google Chrome browser will still be present. Several of the custom ROM's tools will also be available at the user's disposal right at the browser's window.
Users on the Gello web browser for the CyanogenMod 13 will be able to swipe right and left from the edge of their screens in order to switch between tabs, Softpedia has learned. Another nifty feature is the capability to save the web pages for offline reading.
The download web page feature is useful for those who want to read a how-to guide or an editorial piece without having to connect to the Internet again if they want to finish it. If a user disconnects for too long or the app has been closed, the cache would sometimes be cleared.
Gello web browser's status bar would also change its color based on the favicon of the website, Liliputing reported. This would add in for the attractiveness of the CyanogenMod 13 custom ROM and for easier reading on the eyes.
Some of the Android phones that will support the new browser include Motorola devices with Snapdragon 200, Snapdragon 410 and Snapdragon 400 chipsets. Oppo phones with Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 and Snapdragon 615 chipsets will also get support.
Other useful features of the new Gello web browser include a night mode and an interesting immersive mode. The browser will also come with a power saving mode which would tremendously help for heavy-duty Android users.
CyanogenMod 13 itself is not yet available on a huge number of smartphones across the world. A responsible community of Android developers are required to maintain the versions.
More CyanogenMod 13 phones will be able to support the Gello web browser soon. However, it is up to the developers of each Android smartphone to include the browser or not in their custom ROMs.
