Onew, whose real name is Lee Jin Ki, said that he will never forget the one incident that happened amid the airing of "Descendants of the Sun." The 26-year-old star recently described the experience and encouragement he received from the show's male lead, Song Joong Ki.
SHINee's leader Onew recently made a guest appearance on the May 17th episode of KBS2's sports variety TV show called "Our Neighborhood Arts and Physical Education" aka "Cool Kiz on The Block." Onew, who played the anxious, hygienically obsessed Dr. Lee Chi Hoon, recount the behind-the-scenes moments from the set of the blockbuster melodrama.
Onew revealed that he was truly disappointed when he found out that his supposed scene in the drama's pilot episode was completely edited out. He described how heartbroken he is that time, stating that it is his first solid acting gig on the television screen, and gushed that Song called before the episode was even finished.
"Then, I received a phone call from Song Joong-ki telling me that he had gone through the same experience before. He comforted me by saying that everything will go uphill from then on and we as actors should try to view the work from the audience's perspective," Onew explained, as quoted by K-pop Herald.
Song, who played Captain Yoo Shi Jin aka Big Boss, went ahead to say that it [things] will get better soon and that Onew should not feel any weight at all. Onew then wrapped up his personal anecdote by stating that he was touched by Song's words of advice and stressed on how he appreciated Song's support as a senior actor.
Apart from that, Onew also revealed that his popularity drawn a plenty of Ahjumma fans since his appearance in the said drama series. "Descendants of the Sun" viewers across the globe was surprised when it was revealed that Onew's character in the show is already engaged to Dr. Jang Eun Hee (Jo Woo Ri) and that he is in fact, a soon-to-be a father.
He continued to impress the viewers and critics with his acting performance in the drama's 6th episode, wherein Lee Chi Hoon (Onew) falls into an emotional breakdown, after blaming himself for the death of his patient in light of his misdiagnosis.
In the scene, Chi Hoon went hysterical after an earthquake survivor-victim, whom he gave a yellow lace pin (which implies delay), suffered from internal injuries and heart bleeding that causes his sudden death.
